“I came across this church of São Sebastião in Araruama and I thought it was a very beautiful and peaceful place. The first trees in the row are many years old and the last ones are younger. Behind them there are also other trees so the green area is very comforting to look at. I decided to paint what I saw. This was the first time I painted an urban image. When I started I soon realized that I was “making a copy”. So I decided to change the source of the light. Instead of the sun coming from above, I thought: “what if the light came from inside the church and from the image of the saint?”.”
